VirginiaPreps.com AA Player of the Week-October 30, 2009

Each week, VirginiaPreps.com will highlight notable performances from the previous weekend in AA football. You can get in on the action as well, by posting your nominees for Player of the Week on any of the four AA message boards each week.

Week 10 AA Player of the Week
After knocking on the Player of the Week door numerous times so far this season, this week's honoree broke through with a big time performance that kept his team's playoff hopes alive. Boasting an eight game total to 1,264 yards and 13 touchdowns, week 10 was perhaps his best of the season as Tabb's Corey Patrick rushed for 305 yards and two long touchdown runs in the Tigers' 35-7 blowout win over Poquoson. The Tigers need to win their final two games and get a team or two in front of them to stumble in order to make a playoff appearance in region I and Patrick has been a big reason why they've stayed in that hunt with four straight wins. Congratulations to Tabb's Corey Patrick, VirginiaPreps.com's AA Player of the Week!

Other Notable Performances
Derrick Palmer, RB, William Byrd: Came up with a huge night for the Terriers in their win over Staunton River, rushing for 322 yards and five scores

Michael Holmes, RB, Harrisonburg: Once again put up huge numbers as he broke the school's rushing record. This week it was 297 yards and four touchdowns in a 41-7 win over Broadway.

Garrett Diehl, QB, Fauquier: Threw for 326 yards and five touchdowns and added 62 rushing yards as the Falcons outlasted James Wood 34-31 in double overtime

Two more stellar games for quarterbacks as Loudoun County's Austin Campbell threw for five scores in their 45-10 win over Freedom and Broad Run's Connor Jessop threw for four touchdowns in a 47-7 win over Potomac Falls

Terrence Travis, QB, Blacksburg: Accounted for 275 total yards (150 rushing, 125 passing) in Bruins' 34-3 win over Pulaski

Josh Walker, RB, Patrick County: Rushed for 201 yards and two scores to help Patrick County beat Bassett 22-0

A'Darius Brown, WR/DB, James Monroe: Sophomore had his best game of the year with 7 catches for 79 yards and a touchdown along with a 53-yard interception return for a score in 35-6 win over Eastern View

And lastly, though not a single player, there was a nomination for the Salem Spartan Defense for their efforts against Hidden Valley's prolific running back David Williams. The Spartans allowed just 55 yards to a back averaging nearly 260 yards per game in their 28-0 win over the Titans.
