Lake Taylor took over sole possession of first place in the Eastern District with a hard fought 3-2 win over the Maury Commodores. The pitchers duel featured Taylor Erby for Lake Taylor and Sam Warren for Maury. The two starting pitchers combine to allow on three earned runs and only a combined six hits.

Taylor Erby took a no-hitter into the fifth inning and picked up the win while striking out eight batters. Taylor pitched into the seventh inning before giving way to his twin brother Justin Erby who earned the save.

The Titans led 3-0 after five but their lead disappeared in the top half of the sixth courtesy of two Lake Taylor errors. After a double-play sat down the first two batters Patrick Califano doubled and scored on a throwing error on a grounder to short by Sam Warren. After a walk to cleanup hitter Joe Jackson, Andrew Tonra hit a grounder that got thru the reach of the third baseman for an error which allowed Warren to trek home.

Maury threatened to tie the game in the seventh when Cameron Parker and Grey Finwood both reached on errors to start the inning. However Parker got caught in a rundown and was tagged out at third base. Justin Erby struckout Josh Airaghi and then forced Jeff Adams to ground out to second to end the game.

Lake Taylor scored all three of their runs in the first two innings including Taylor Erby scoring via a balk. Erby added an RBI when his grounder allowed Justin Erby to score from third. The Titans win, combined with Granby beating Churchland, moved Lake Taylor in to first place.

Notables

Lake Taylor junior Chayse Manugo, who was inserted as the starter at first base, came thru big in the infield. Manugo made three great plays including assisting on a double-play by fielding a grounder, stepping on first base, and throwing to second for out number two. He also fielded a grounder and dove to tag Califano who was running down the first base line.

Freshman pitcher Paul Hall faced three batters in the fourth and struckout the side.
